Duncan McClellan Glass Studio, 550 24th Street South St. Petersburg, FL
For over 1,000 years the pine dugout canoe lay submerged in the mud of Tampa Bay. In 2001, the canoe was found and plans were made to excavate, preserve and display the canoe through a cooperative effort of the Alliance for Weedon Island Archaeological Research and Education, Friends of Weedon Island and Pinellas County Government. In 2011, a team of archaeologists and
volunteers excavated the canoe. It measured 39’11” with an estimated 5’ missing. The next step is final preservation and display. You can help complete the fascinating voyage of this canoe.
Supporters of the project are hosting a fund- raising evening at the Duncan McClellan Glass Studio. Your $35 pre-paid entry fee will provide you with commemorative wine glass, a drink ticket, hors d’oeuvres, cash bar and a bidding paddle for silent and live auctions. Seating is limited and no walk-up admission will be available.
