Join Duncan McClellan Gallery and Seattle based glass artist Raven Skyriver for the opening of the glass exhibit “From the Sea”. This exhibit will open Saturday, January 10, at 5:30-9:30pm, and includes a free glassblowing demonstration with Raven and the St.Petersburg Hot Glass Workshop team. Refreshments will be available.
On Sunday, January 11 at noon, watch Raven Skyriver create another hot glass masterpiece in the Gallery’s 2400 square foot “Hot Shop”, and join him at the Museum of Fine Arts for an intimate brunch at 1:30pm. These events precede Raven’s 3pm lecture at the Museum, part of their “Hot Gatherings, Cool Conversations” lecture series. (The demo is free and open to the public. For the brunch and lecture, contact the Museum of Fine Arts at 727-896-2667 for reservations and further information.)
Born in 1982, Raven Skyriver started blowing glass in high school at the age of sixteen. Raven’s mentor, Lark Dalton, taught him how to build glass blowing equipment and trained him in Venetian technique; this enabled Raven to build his own workshop. Soon thereafter, Raven joined the William Morris team at Karen Willenbrink-Johnsen’s request. There he worked for the following seven years, learning sculptural glass. Since William Morris’s retirement, Raven has continued to focus in the area of sculpture. His depiction of marine life is inspired by his island upbringing and informed by the creatures that inhabit this fragile ecosystem.
