ABOUT NOKUMBAYA
Every penny Nokumbaya raises goes to buying medications and providing medical care to the people who visit their clinics. Every member of the mission trip pays (or raises money for) his or her travel expenses, housing and food costs.
They have been able to run missions to some of the most impoverished areas of the world. These include Salem, India; a village deep in the Amazon; and their current focus, Belize. In southern Belize they visit local schools twice a year and annually run a full medical clinic in Red Bank, a small Mayan village deep in the Belize jungle.

A typical medical clinic is run by a staff of doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses and lay volunteers. Nokumbaya sets up stations for intake, vital signs, examination, laboratory, pharmacy, and optional prayer. They also have staff to control crowds and play with and entertain the children. In a week they will see and treat 400 to 500 patients. They document their work; each patient has a written record of his or her vitals, the notes of the doctor or nurse practitioner, the medications prescribed and and follow-up.

Southern Belize is Nokumbaya’s current focus, run three trips a year to impoverished Mayan villages and schools. The twice yearly school trips are designed to provide basic care to hundreds of school children and to screen all students for possible medical issues. The schools are located at Maya Centre, San Pablo, and Sittee River.

Nokumbaya also runs a full clinic yearly at San Pablo, a small village 9 miles down a dirt road from the main paved highway. In addition to medical care, they provide toothbrushes (and dental instruction) and eyeglasses. In the few years Nokumbaya has visited San Pablo they have seen a marked increase in the level of health and wellness among the residents.
