Birds Installation

These cast glass birds by New Zealand artists Luke Jacomb and Katherine Rutecki are created using the lost wax technique, during which a detailed wax model is carved and then a plaster mold is made from the wax model. The wax is melted out of the mold and lead crystal glass is placed into the mold and melted. When cooled, the mold is broken to reveal the glass so each bird is therefore unique.

Each bird is affixed to a simple screw which enables it to be installed onto non re-inforced walls. These birds are enchantingly effective in both small or large groupings.

Both Jacomb and Rutecki are well established on the international glass art scene and their work can be found in a number of important public collections including the Ebeltoft Glass Museum in Denmark, The Corning Museum of Glass in New York and the Works Museum in Ohio.
