Description
Michael attended Washington University in St Louis to major in Economic Theory where he first encountered glassblowing. Upon graduating, he helped build Third Degree Glass Factory, a multi-studio public access facility in St. Louis. After a decade of exploring this glass studio startup, Michael leapt at the opportunity to strike out on his own and move to Spruce Pine, NC with my love and glass partner Amber Marshall. To this day we run a small glass studio in Bakersville, NC that focuses on one of a kind glass objects and sculpture.
The power of movement, the mind-body connection and power of attention/concentration piqued his interest at a young age. The attention to detail and physical control required to create classical glass patterns quickly became a focus. This body of work is as much about fluid, mindful movements as it is about mesmerizing optics. The aim is to imprint these concentrated efforts into the patterns, capturing an otherwise ethereal moment.
