Description

Susan Rankin, who teaches at the Haliburton School of the Arts in Ontario, Canada, says she spends a lot of time planning and drawing her forms in charcoal. She says she finds inspiration in classical forms because they are very sensual, pointing to the tight waist and broad shoulders of some of her vases.

Historical references fascinate her – like her elaborate Epergnes which are a modern rendition of a 19th century Victorian placing a decorative in the center of a dinner table as a display of status.

She is also enthralled the history of glass, the chandeliers and the florals, which she incorporates in her work today.

Rankin has exhibited widely in Canada, the US, and Asia. her works can be seen in the collections of the Corning Museum, Corning, N.Y., the Claridge Collection, Montréal, Québec., the Michel- Pierre Grenier Collection, Montréal, Québec. the Saskatchewan Arts Board, Regina, Sask. the Moose Jaw Art Museum, Moose Jaw Sask., the SkyDome, Toronto, Ontario, the UBS Bank (Canada), Toronto, Ontario, the Department of Foreign Affairs, Government of Canada, the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, Montréal, Quebec, and Glazen Huis, Flemish Centre for Contemporary Glass Art, Lommel, Belgium.
