glass blowing in action, history of glass

Sunday, January 13

11am-4:00pm
Duncan Mcclellan Gallery
Join us for this relaxed, family friendly Sunday afternoon event, as we welcome renowned Seattle Glassblowers Shelley Muzylowski Allen and Rik Allen
Shelley Allen suspends her sculpted figures in moments of tension, recalling myths and legends through animal forms. She strives to bring a painterly quality to this dynamic medium by layering color to add depth to her pieces as they are being made. The textures and patterns have the fluidity and gesture of brushwork and enrich the strong, three-dimensional form.

While many of Rik Allen’s pieces have a reference to his curiosity for science and nature, they also convey humor, simple narratives, and a lightheartedness that is embodied in much of science fiction’s antiquated vision of the future.

Both Rik and Shelley Muzylowski Allen’s work is exhibited throughout the world, and is in major collections nationally and internationally.

The glassblowing demonstration by the Allens will run from 11am-12:30pm, and they will discuss their work during a slide presentation at the gallery from 1-2pm.

This is a rare chance to meet glass blowers of this stature, and watch them  create work in an intimate environment.

The Gallery and  sculpture garden will be open.
